Black and White Maternity & Family Photo Session | Honeoye Falls, NY
Brian here! I’m the film and family photographer half of Shaw Photography Co., and I am so excited to share the Elise family’s photo session with you. Alexandra Elise is a wedding and family photographer in Rochester, NY, and when she requested a black and white film photography session, I couldn’t say no. I absolutely LOVE photographing in black and white, and as Alexandra is a fellow film photographer, it was an honor to photograph her and her family
The Elise family lives in Honeoye Falls, NY, which is just outside of Rochester. I traveled to them for their photo session, which I am more than willing to do for any family photo clients who live in Western, New York (Or anywhere really, I love to travel!)
Alexandra is pregnant with twins, who are expected to arrive in July, and they have an active 2-year-old, so they chose to do half their session in their own backyard, and the other half at a local park a few minutes from their home. That way, the family was close to home, and their 2-year-old had plenty of space to run around. Letting kids be kids in an environment they’re familiar with allows me to capture authentic family photos.
The Elise’s photo session took place about 2 hours before sunset on an early spring day. It wasn’t very warm outside that day, but luckily, we had the sun. Weather is always tricky, especially during springtime in New York, but the family endured the 50-degree weather and they remained outside for the entire 90-minute photo session.
This session was the perfect opportunity for Alexandra and her husband to capture both their pregnancy and their lives with their 2-year-old. Things change quickly when new family members are added, so taking these moments to document their family of 3 before it becomes a family of 5 was important to the Elises. I’m so happy with how their session turned out, and I’m excited to see what’s in store for this family in the future!
