It was about 10 years ago that Shaw Photography Co. was just a seed of an idea. Christina was still working at The Park School of Buffalo, New York, and dreaming about transitioning full time into wedding photography, (At that time it was still called “Christina Shaw Photography! HA! How so much has changed!). Maddie was a senior at the school and they’d often cross paths as Christina was in the head’s office and would sign most of the kids in and out when they would come and go for appointments. That year Christina photographed Madeline’s senior portraits at what was the start of her transition into full-time photography. Now, 10 years later it’s our honor to be photographing her wedding in 2021!
For Maddie & Bobby’s engagement session, we had to wait until the travel restrictions were lifted for Ohio for us to travel to them. Once the restrictions lifted, we quickly set a date for August and headed to Cleveland for the session! We were so excited to explore Cleveland through Madeline & Bobby’s eyes. We explored their favorite neighborhood, the Arty, residential Tremont, where they first lived. We then finished the engagement session by going to the waterfront at sunset. In between those two places we got to learn a lot about Cleveland and even had a healthy conversation about the comparison of Cleveland to Buffalo! They are so similar and yet, SO very different. One thing we know is we’ll be back to explore more of Cleveland soon! (Check out our recommendations below!)
One aspect of being a destination and traveling wedding photographer we love so much is exploring new places with our couples. And even though we’ve been to Cleveland before this was the first time we got to spend a few days there exploring. We found the cutest airbnb in the Central Gordon Square Arts District that was so fun to explore!
Some of the highlights of our quick trip to Cleveland were:
Eating take out pizza at Il Rione Pizzeria down the block from us
Exploring the Cleveland Children’s Museum with our two littles
Sundae’s at Sweet Moses Icecream shop
Happy Hour Dinner at Astoria Cafe Market (Mediterranean Food, YUM!)
Window Shopping up and down Detroit Ave (A few shops were closed when we were in town, but so many cute ones were still open!)
Coffee and Bagels to go from Gypsy Beans before leaving to head back to Buffalo
Have you been to Cleveland before? What are some of your favorite spots to visit?
The sunset at the waterfront reminded us so much of Buffalo’s beautiful sunsets! It was wonderful to visit another town that had the small feel of Buffalo, yet the expansive feeling of so many different neighborhoods to explore!
If you’re interested in learning more about working with us for your wedding or engagement session, we’d love to hear from you! We only have 2 more wedding slots available for 2021, but we’re already starting to chat with couples for 2022! And yes: we still travel!!
