In a little under two weeks we’re heading out on our road trip cross country. Since high school, it’s been a dream of both of ours to do something of this sort but the timing has never worked out as well as now. And as we hope to make it cross country, we fully realize Trudy is old, and we’re newbies at this, so we’re taking the trip in strides, with every evening spent on the road feeling like a mini accomplishment. If we make it one full month, we’ll feel pretty incredible. We’ve left our calendars pretty wide open until May, but we have intentions of coming back East sometime between February and March.
We have the first leg of the trip planned but we’re seeking your help along the way. If you let us stay in your driveway, plug in our RV and use your bathrooms in any of the cities below that are bolded, we’d love to offer you a waived sitting fee on our portrait sessions while we’re staying with you. If you are interested or know anyone in nearby cities that we can reach out to, send us an e-mail at info@shawphotoco.com to say hello 🙂
Here is our first leg timeline:
(CITIES IN BOLD ARE WHERE WE ARE LOOKING FOR DRIVEWAY HOSTS)
- Richmond, VA (October 15-18)
- Bedford, VA (October 18-19)
- Sevierville, TN (October 19-21)
- Nashville, TN (October 21-23)
- Kuttawa, KY (October 23-25)
- St. Louis, MO (October 25-27)
- Kansas City, KS (October 27-29)
- Salina & Hays, & Colby, KS (short one night stops, can stay nearby cities as well) (October 29-31)
- Denver, CO (October 31-November 12)
From Denver, we will most likely head south, but we’re playing that part by ear for now as we figure out all the ins and outs of how steep of a hill Trudy can climb, how well she does in lower temperatures (we have to try and stay above freezing for our pipes!), and how good of gas mileage we can get (we’re currently sitting between 6-7 MPG).
We took Trudy on another mini trip two weekends ago and the starter gave us a little trouble, (we had to call AAA for the first time!), so brought her to the shop where she’s now getting all fixed up for our trip. Every time we take Trudy on the road we learn something new about her which made us realize there are going to be a lot of unplanned mini adventures within our big adventures. We’ll keep you posted on her status and in the meantime we’d love to share some personal i-phone photos from our last few trips.
