Glazer Family Photo Session | Rock Harbor | Cape Cod, MA
The Glazer family photo session was pure fate.
Jillian went to high school in Buffalo with my wife, and she currently lives in Oregon. She knew we traveled for photo sessions, so she got in touch with us about photographing her entire extended family during their vacation.
Her parents were celebrating their anniversary and rented a home for the family in Cape Cod. Coincidentally, Christina and I were shooting a wedding in Nantucket the same week the Glazer family was in Cape Cod. The timing could not have been more perfect. I was able to shoot their family photo session the day before we had to be on the Nantucket Ferry for the wedding.
The Glazer family is scattered throughout the country, and with everyone living in a different city, it’s difficult and rare for them to be in one place together. Because it’s such a rarity, they wanted to document their trip with some family photos.
We started the session about 90 minutes before sunset at the rental home in Cape Cod. The weather on the east coast is unpredictable, and the clouds were threatening rain all day, so we wanted to get all of the necessary group photos out of the way at the beginning. The family wanted the session to be laid back, so we played it by ear. Since the weather (and the kids) were cooperating, we decided to make the 7-minute drive from the rental home to Rock Harbor Beach to see the sunset.
The weather made a turn for the better and it ended up being a great evening. It was a little windy when we got to the beach, so I’m really happy that we got the big family photos out of the way at the house. Sometimes wind can add an element of fun to photos, but not when you have to pose a big group. We were able to relax and enjoy the sunset while I took a few candid family photos.
Beaches make great backdrops for family photos, but when a client requests a beach photo session, I always suggest starting the session somewhere else. Beaches tend to be windy, and although the windblown look is in, you don’t want to deal with hair in your face for all of your photos.
Overall, this family photo session was very laid back. I’m glad we got the posed photos out of the way so the family could enjoy the beach and the sunset.
If you’re in Western New York, and you’d like to schedule a photo session, let us know! We will be leaving Buffalo for Florida starting in September of 2022, and we won’t be back till May of 2023, so now is the time to book a Spring/Summer session.
