In-Home Family Film Photography Session with stop at Hoyt Lake in Buffalo, NY
I’m Brian, and I’m the film and family photographer half of Shaw Photography Co. I’m always grateful for the opportunity to photograph the same families year after year and the Winkler family is no exception. The Winklers moved back to their home city of Buffalo in 2018 after living in Chicago, and I have been honored to be photographing their family ever since. Maura Winkler is also a local midwife, and she has done so much for the Buffalo Community and us when we were pregnant with our second child. We’re so lucky to have her and her family here. They have become some of our closest family friends throughout the years which makes photographing them extra special. We’ve even adventured together to the Dominican Republic right before the Covid pandemic started- we’ll save that story and gorgeous images from that trip for another day!
The Winklers chose to have this family photo session in their home. And luckily, they live within close distance of Hoyt Lake, so we were also able to take advantage of Buffalo’s fall foliage and head over there for a bit too to give a bit of diversity to the images! The Winkler’s family photo session offered the best of both worlds. I was able to photograph their family in the comfort of their own home, and we had the opportunity to venture outside and use the autumn colors as a backdrop.
Since I’ve photographed the Winkler family in the past, the session was extremely easy going. It took place about 2 hours before sunset, which really highlighted Buffalo’s brilliant fall colors around Hoyt Lake. The weather was absolutely perfect. We couldn’t have asked for a better day for a photo session
