Intimate Backyard Wedding in Batavia, New York
Intimate, joyful, intentional, easy, overdue. These are the 5 words that Eilidh and Jack wanted their backyard wedding to be, and it was exactly that! They chose a family home in Batavia, New York, owned by Eilidh’s great aunt and uncle (who recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary!) Like so many couples, they had to reschedule their wedding and cut back on the guest list. Family is so important to the couple, so while they had fewer guests, they wanted the whole wedding weekend to be all about those who could come and celebrate.
Eilidh and Jack met in college while attending Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee. The two had a long-distance relationship for many years. They would drive from Memphis to Knoxville every other weekend to see each other and stop in Nashville halfway. Every time they would meet in Nashville, they would go to Jeni’s Ice Cream. So of course, they had Jeni’s Ice Cream as their wedding dessert! We love when couples bring in these special memories to their wedding day. It really makes it so much more personal!
One of our favorite parts of their wedding was just how family-focused it was. On the day of the wedding, instead of the couple being away getting ready, they chose to host a casual lunch with all their guests. After lunch, they plated croquet next to their ceremony site and had so much fun connecting with everyone. It was such a special time for everyone, especially after over a year apart!
A colorful backyard wedding
Shortly after lunch, the couple headed inside the home to get ready. Eilidh wore a stunning gown by Lea-Ann Belter. It was a crepe sheath, with a lace bodice, that was so romantic. She paired it with white Loeffler Randall heels, and gold hoop earrings that were a gift from Jack. The final touch was her cathedral veil by Unveiled by Brittanie.
Their backyard ceremony took place outside on the lawn, and you can just see how happy Eilidh was as she walked down the aisle! One of Eilidh’s favorite moments from the day was during the ceremony. As she walked down the aisle with her dad, her veil got stuck between two rocks. The guests could see it, but Jack couldn’t. When she finally got it free, she was so excited to see him, and yelled, “I got stuck between some rocks!” It was almost as if se forgot that they were at their wedding ceremony. That is how you know when a couple is just so in love!
An Intimate Reception
After their ceremony, we walked around the property to get some gorgeous sunset portraits of the couple. As wedding photographers, we love when couples chose family homes since we have so much privacy! Portraits are also a great time for couples to re-connect. A wedding day goes by fast, so we love being able to go away with our couples for a little alone time.
Their reception was tented, right on the lawn. Beautiful flower arrangements in orange, blush, and lavender were made by Heirloom Soul Flowers. Eilidh’s bouquet was incredible and even featured draping orchids and orange ranunculus. It looked like it was freshly picked from the garden! Their reception was filled with so much laughter and joy, and it was so amazing to be part of this sweet couples day. Congratulations, Eilidh and Jack!
