Newborn Twin Photography Session| Buffalo, New York
I’m Brian, and I’m the film and family photographer half of Shaw Photography Co. I’m so excited to share this blog post of the beautiful Blackburn family!
Christina and I strongly believe in preserving fleeting family moments through photography. We know from experience, nothing is more fleeting than the newborn stage. Photographing families on film is the work that is most personal to me because I love the way it preserves memories in such a timeless way.
I had the pleasure of photographing the adorable Blackburn twins at their home in Buffalo, NY soon after their arrival. I also was lucky enough to photograph their parent’s wedding in August of 2018! It’s always fun to watch clients grow from wedding photo clients to family photo clients. This newborn session was such a pleasure to photograph. The parents were extremely easygoing, and the twins drifted in and out of sleep during the session, which made my job super easy.
The Blackburns live in Buffalo, NY, and they chose to do their newborn photo session in the comfort of their own home, rather than a studio. I personally find that newborn sessions are much easier on the babies and on the parents when they take place at home or in a comfortable and familiar space. If there is a need for a diaper change, outfit change, or feeding (which is pretty common with newborns) everything the parents need is just steps away, rather than worrying if they packed the right outfits.
Another helpful newborn photo session tip is to schedule the session in the morning. Newborns can be unpredictable, but usually, their temperament is easier to anticipate in the morning. As I mentioned, the Blackburn twins were sleeping throughout their session, so it made posing and photographing the newborns much less stressful. Obviously, all babies are different, but with most newborn sessions I’ve done, scheduling in the morning has worked out well.
If you choose to have your newborn session in your own home, light is an important factor to consider. For the Blackburn family, I did the session on a sunny October morning, and the front room of their home produced some amazing natural light, which is essential when a photographer shoots indoors with film.
The Blackburn’s newborn photo session was a total joy, and I am so appreciative of having the opportunity to capture these special moments for our clients.
