We are so excited to share Alana and Matt’s wedding from the summer of 2021! We’ve been slow in blogging these days but when we do get the chance to feature a wedding or family session, it’s always so fun to look back and remember what it felt like to be a part of those memories.
Alana and Matt’s wedding was really special to us, so we’re glad we are finally able to share it. This couple met in college, but they didn’t begin to date until after college. They survived long distances for a couple of years while Alana got her master’s degree in New York City and Matt lived in Pittsburgh. Eventually, Matt convinced Alana to come back to Pittsburgh, and he later proposed to her at the Phipps Botanical Garden in a private room with a hidden photographer. One of the couple’s first dates was at the Phipps Botanical Garden, so it was really meaningful for the two.
After the proposal, they had dinner at their favorite restaurant, Girasole. This restaurant is so manful to the couple that their custom wedding crest featured sunflowers since Girasole is Italian for sunflower. The crest also included a poinsettia, to add a nod to where they got engaged, the Poinsettia Room.
After some setbacks with Covid, this amazing couple finally got married at Knox Farm in East Aurora, New York. Their day was filled with so many personal details that all made their wedding so intimate and special.
Custom Wedding Details
When it came to her wedding gown, Alana had her heart set on the Greek designer Costello’s. She loved how ethereal and romantic their gowns were and went to the White Toronto to shop the collection. The dress she chose was absolutely stunning and fit her vibe so well, (Alana was an art history major so we know she appreciates timelessness).
She chose the Evangelina gown, which is made of Cordone Chantilly lace, covered in embroidered French tulle. The shop also worked with her to create a custom veil made in a soft Swiss dot fabric. She completed the look with hairpins from Jennifer Behr, which were pinned into her gorgeous braided updo. (we are obsessed with this wedding hair styled from Kassie at Groom Service in Buffalo, NY!).
Outdoor Wedding at Knox Farm
Alana and Matt had to make some big changes throughout the planning process. Their original wedding was on Alana’s grandparents’ anniversary, September 12th, 2020. They moved it to 2021 and decided to move venues to Knox Farm so they could be outside. McCarthy’s created an incredible space with their tent, flooring, and lighting.
Alana says that the wedding theme was focused on the seasonal flowers from Wild Blossom Hollow. The owner, Christy, focuses on sustainable practices and grows most of the flowers herself on her farm. Alana went to the farm to pick the colors and chose marigold, peach and yellow shades that all complimented each other. Christy did a beautiful job creating the perfect backdrop for Alana and Matt.
The vision of the day was to create a lovely dinner party where everyone they loved could celebrate together. The couple wanted good food, good drinks, and good music. They wanted an intimate affair, elegant but not stuffy. The day turned out perfect for them, and they just loved spending time with their friends and family and walking around as husband and wife.
Portraits at Knox Farm
The couple told us one of their favorite moments was arriving at their cocktail hour after portraits on the grounds of Knox Farm. As Alana told us, “There was such an exciting feeling in that pre-arrival to the party buzz to anticipate while taking our first photos together as husband and wife. The two of you just being so fun and light, incorporating our drinks into the photos, you made us both so comfortable as two people who are not nuts about being in front of the camera.”
Their second favorite moment was when they took a car from the Church to Knox Farm, just the two of them. They had a quiet moment to just relax with each other after the ceremony, and re-connect.
An Emotional Wedding Toast
One of the most important moments of the day Alana’s dad’s speech. Her father had a major stroke months before, and he had worked so hard in the days following to be able to give his speech. It was a significant moment and accomplishment. Everyone stood up and clapped for him, which Alana said brought tears to her eyes. Truly an incredible moment that we’ll never forget. The whole day was just so full of love, fun, warmth, and positivity.
Alana and Matt’s day at Knox Farm was absolutely gorgeous, and we’re so grateful we got to be a part of it. Alana let us know that we helped make the night so easy for them. Our goal is always to create an amazing experience for our clients, and Alana says we were able to help them be comfortable in front of the camera, and we’re so glad for that.
